Rio Grande National Forest

So named by President Teddy Roosevelt in the early 1900's, the Rio Grande National Forest contains 1,852,000 acres and is the largest forest in Colorado. It offers over 150 lakes and 80 streams and over 1300 miles of jeep trails. Large herds of Elk and Deer, Big Horn Sheep, and countless other species of wildlife abound.
The Rio Grande National Forest features:
- 1.86 million acres
- The Continental Divide runs for 236 miles along most of the western border
- Headwaters of the Rio Grande River
- Wheeler Geologic Area
