Fly Fishing

Fly Fishing THE LEGENDARY RIO GRANDE, sometimes referred to by professional fly fishermen "The Little Madison"  starts its 1800 mile journey to the Gulf of Mexico just 30 miles NW of South Fork.  One special note:  the Rio Grande has over 50 tributaries.

Of Colorado's 6,000 miles of streams, 168 miles have received the coveted Gold Medal designation. The Rio Grande River flowing through South Fork is fortunate to have 16 miles of Gold Medal water, the longest contiguous stretch of this type of water in the state This area is both scenic and fish productive. Both Salmon and Stonefly hatches produce large German Browns late Spring and early Summer.
